Charles Darwin published his theory in a literature titled ‘On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life’. For the sixth edition of 1872, the short title was changed to ‘The Origin of Species’. Darwin’s book introduced the scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection.
Neo-Darwinism postulates that natural selection acts on the heritable (genetic) variations within individuals in populations and that mutations (especially random copying errors in DNA) provide the main source of these genetic variations. Because positive mutations seem to be rare, Neo-Darwinism contends that evolution will be a slow, gradual process.
We accept that evolution does occur and that Natural selection is an actual scientific phenomenon. However this is not the only claim that Darwin made. Darwin’s claim was not just that evolution occurs, rather it was of evolution accounting for the Origin of new species and common ancestry. So the question is that can evolution by means of natural selection acting on random mutations account for all complexity of life and common ancestry?
Many Atheists claim that this is a scientific fact and it is only the ignorant who deny it. However, the reality is that more and more scientists are now coming forward and expressing their disagreement over these claims. In the website Dissent from Darwinism, we see a list of scientists who have claimed that they are skpetical of the claims that Darwinists make. These are the scientists who have openly come out is their disagreement over Darwinism. There are others that do not openly come out for fear of losing their jobs, as the following Documentary reveals.
If this is the case then it makes it very clear that the Darwin’s theory of evolution is certainly not a scientific fact. What we need to do is to go through the evidence provided by both sides of the argument and judge for ourselves, as to which side has a stronger evidence.
